It is with great pride that the Greater Phoenix Chapter of IFMA in collaboration with Arizona State University announces the launching of the first course of the Facility Management (FM) beginning in the Fall semester of 2010. The FM Operations and Maintenance (CON 494) class, is one of the foundational areas of responsibility within the Facilities Management profession and will provide students with an excellent overview of the scope and breadth of the role. There are no prerequisites to enroll in this class as long as the individual is a non-degree seeking student and existing students considering the FM profession can use this course as an elective for their current programs.
For the convenience of individuals that have busy schedules this course will be offered on a weekly basis on Tuesday evenings from 4:40 pm to 7:30pm at the ASU Tempe campus. This offering will provide a means of “testing the waters” and the interest level within the FM community. If successful, this will be the precursor to the second FM class for 2011-2012. We are encouraging members of the FM community to support this class and to recommend it to family, co-workers, colleagues and employees by registering for the class. Our goal is have 30 students for the upcoming fall semester. Class registration opened on March 1st and ASU will provide step-by-step instructions which will be posted on the Greater Phoenix Chapter of IFMA’s website. (www.ifmaphoenix.org)
This FM class is the result of the long term vision and efforts of IFMA’s Education Committee, the Greater Phoenix Chapter of IFMA’s Board of Directors and the President’s Group which is made up of the leaders from various professional organizations throughout the valley. The faculty and staff from ASU’s Performance Based Studies Research Group and Del E. Webb School of Construction was instrumental in developing the class and heeding the industry’s request to provide such a class as a means of attracting and preparing new entrants to this challenging and exciting field.
